Hey guys,
Ouster recently announced a partnership with Vecna Robotics, an AMR (autonomous mobile robot) company that specializes in the development of warehouse vehicles. They commited to delivering 3.000 LiDAR sensors to Vecna Robotics until 2025 with the goal to further develop warehouse automation. According to the CTO at Vecna Robotics Zachary Dydek, they prefer the OS0 LiDAR as a device to be integrated into their products. The OS0 features the widest Field of View (90°) of all currently available devices from the Ouster which is of great use in narrow environments such as a warehouse and therefore seems to best suited for their use case.
Currently Vecna Robotics' lineup includes an autonomous counterbalanced fork truck, a tugger and a pallet truck. Their vision is to maximize human productivity and meet the increasing demand of supply chain operations. Automation could help minimize unexpected shipping delays, labor shortages as well as price inflation.
If we examine the current situation, reports state that less than 1% of all material handling vehicles are automated. It is therefore estimated that the value of the total addressable market (for industrial LiDAR applications) will be about $2.5 billion by 2025 - an opportunity that Ouster doesn't want to miss.
We are excited to partner with Vecna Robotics as they scale to serve the market opportunity for intelligent material handling equipment." - Angus Pacala (CEO, Ouster)
