The handling of trucks in large hubs, also known as yard operations, is a significant part of today's logistics networks. Coordinating the positions of tractors and trailers including the docking procedures can be difficult and time-consuming. The company Outrider designed autonomous solutions for automated yard operations to increase efficiency.
Use of LiDAR
Outrider is using an Ouster OS0 lidar on every autonomous vehicle they are using. Lidar is essential for their vehicles to enable accurate navigation and docking. They chose the OS0 sensor due to the wide field of view which makes accurate navigation in tight spaces possible.
Lidar is a fundamental component of our integrated system, which enables our autonomous vehicles to see and interpret their surroundings. Having a close relationship with our ecosystem of partners is critical to maximizing the performance of the Outrider System and the throughput of our customer’s supply chains…We believe the performance and cost advantages of Ouster’s digital lidar sensors will further accelerate the industry’s rapid adoption of our technology. - Andrew Smith, Founder and CEO of Outrider
