Introduction
With the introduction of OSDome, Ouster expanded its lineup of digital lidar sensors. In previous years, the company continuously improved their well-known OS0, OS1, and OS2 sensors, equipping them with new chips - their latest one being the L3 Chip in REV7 sensors. However, demand for a completely new and revolutionary design was high.
Why OSDome
Before the OSDome was released, the Ouster OS0 featured the largest field of view of 90 degrees. However, for many applications including warehouse automation and security, blind spots were inevitable. Therefore, multiple sensors had to be placed at different angles, which lead to higher costs and a more difficult design.
With OSDome, you do not have to worry about these inconveniences anymore. Using the same hardware, but a different arrangement of the sensor internally, the OSDome provides an ultra-wide 180-degree FOV. Thanks to the seamless design, it perfectly blends in with the environment and is less noticeable in retail stores or factories.
